Publications
Grassroots: is designed to promote
media coverage of the human conditions and community
development at the grassroots of Indian society. A monthly
publication of the Press Institute of India, it encourages
direct field reportage, so as to potray the actual impact
of the social change, or lack of change, on human beings
living in conditions far removed from the world - opinion
and policy - makers. Feild reportage is emphasised because
first - hand accounts for which the reporter takes resonsibility
exude a credibility that exaggerates reports of plan
and achievements inspired by official handouts have
lost over the decades.
Vidura: is a journal devoted to Indian
journalism and mass communication. Its a mirror on mass
media and reaches opinion makers. Vidura has didtinguished
contributors.
People and Hum Log:
The publication started in a modest way with an 8 page
newsletter in English. The PII on its own initiative
increased it to 16 pages and bought it out in Hindia
as well. This has greatly helped indepth reporting on
these issues. Since the first issue of People came out
soon after the birth of the billionth baby, astha, every
issue carries a small write-up and photograph of her.
Through these stories of baby Aastha, we hope to keep
the country ‘s attention focussed onh the fact
that we have crossed the billionth mark.
